We went on a road trip to see a great musician, Sierra Hull<\/a>. It was a no brainer since she was playing at a brewery, in my home town. <\/p>\n\n\n

The Foundr<\/a>y is in the Virginia Metalcrafters Marketplace<\/a> building in Waynesboro. They used to make all kinds of metal things believe it or not. My mom worked there for a bit in the giftshop. There’s a few things from there floating around here somewhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The facility is mostly standing room only. A bit tough for my condition, but we got there early and grabbed a table up in the mezzanine, The view was good, the steps to get up there not so much. There were some reserved seats, we did not know about the show early enough to snag one of those.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They have a weird setup at the bar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The line winds around and there’s 3 or 4 bartenders. The first few times I went straight to the bar and grabbed some beers. After the first band started they changed to the cattle fencing and you had to do the beer maze to get a drink. I wasn’t prepared for that so I trudged up the steps and waited for the line to go down.<\/p>\n\n\n

The funny thing was, I wasn’t the only one who didn’t get it. People would stand in the line chatting and oblivious to the system and in order to entice folks down to the other bartenders, they waved a little light wand like you get at the circus. Probably would have had a few more beers if it was easier. This particular show, it was only effective for 15 minutes or so. Perhaps larger crowds would utilize it better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The warmup band was a regular at the Elkton Brewing Company<\/a>! The brewery owner sat next to us. Look for a report from a visit there soon!<\/p>\n\n\n

No relation to Jerry Douglas, I asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We stayed at the North 340 Campground<\/a> 5 mile north of Waynesboro, as the name suggests, in Dooms, VA. A rough town in my youth but seems to have mellowed out over the years. In fact, the drivers around there were darn near polite to our RV wanderings.<\/p>\n\n\n

The campground has a mix of permanent and transient sites. There are several areas and is a pretty quiet place. Couple of rude canines, but many people camp so they can take their pets. Sure wish they would keep them quiet. Full hookups are available at most of the sites . They were working on the camp store, so not sure about how well it’s stocked. Waynesboro has all the usual stores, so you can get anything you want there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Especially, you can get Ciro’s Pizza<\/a>, which we did! Place hasn’t changed in 50 years…<\/p>\n\n\n

There’s a bunch of Ciro’s, I’ve been to plenty and they are all good. This one is the OG for me!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Couple of slices and a special cold to go!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also checked out the Crozet Tunnel state park and the South River greenway. More about that in another post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I almost forgot! The brewery is Basic City Beer Co<\/a>., been around a few years and has grown into a pretty big, kid-friendly local gathering place. They have a bunch of games. I wanted to ask if the old school coin operated shuffleboard game, came from the now defunct High Hatter, a rough and rowdy bar from my youth. The brewery has pretty good distribution, at least in Virginia. Not sure how far that extends. Solid beer, they had 6 or 8 beers on draft. only a couple in the music area. We drank the pale ale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
